Each employer will be a little different and a lot of that might depend on the type of job it is. Steps for Applying for A Job
I have listed some very importan steps for applying for a job that I believe will help. You need to research and practice.
- You always need to research the company. It is important to understand what they stand for, goals and the culture of the company. You may find out it isn’t a good fit for you even before you apply. Understanding just what the job requirements and responsibilites are is important. Do you have the skills needed to do the job? It will be better to tell the truth when applying for the job. They may be willing to work with you until you learn. But if you lie and they find out, it could mean getting fired! You would have waisted their time as well as yours
- Make sure to Tailor your Resume and cover Letter to match the experience and skills to match the job discription. Highlight your accomplishments. Add a cover letter with information about why you are interested in the job you have applied for. It is ok to let them know why you believe you would be an asset to the company and be confident.
- When filling out your job application do it with care. Make sure all information is accurate. Spell check everything. Put some thought into the questions,
- If you know people within the company you might have them introduce you. Having a mutual connection is often a good way to get a job.
- Get ready for the interview. Practice infront of a mirrow or with your friends. You should also prepare questions for the interviewer. It will show interest in the company.
- It is ok to follow up after the interview, you can send a thank-you note. This will show gratitude and it will be another opportunity to reinterate your interest in the job. It is ok to email and followup if you have not heard back after a few days.
- Keep applying until you get a job. You may need to modify your application for each company. Research each company.
Interview Etiquette
- Be on time! Arrive early. Be ready when they are.
- Dress in Line with the compnay culture. Be neat and professional. Remember first impressions go along way.
- Bring copies of your resume, list of references and any other documents they have ask you to bring. It is always good to bring your pen and note pad. Also bring your I.D.
- Eye contact is important and a good handshake. Smile sit up straight. Do not lean on the door frame.
- Listen carefully. Let the interviewer finish the question before you answer. Make eye contact while they are speaking. Stay engagged with them.
- Stay positive and excited about the job. Don’t complain about former employers or colleagues.
- Speak up when you answer the questions and don’t ramble on and on.
- Ask a few qustions about the role of the job or company. Show true interest.
- Treat everyone with respect and be courteous. You will be watched in some cases how you interact with others.
These steps may sound like common sense, but you would be surprised at the people who I have interviewed. I have had people show up without an appointment and were in their P.J.s Some reek of marijuana or cigarettes or even alchohol. I have had a few Call Mrs Rhonda instead of Mrs Blankenship. They do it was a sweet baby sounding voice that you would use on a child. For me this is a big turn off.
Maybe you would just like to be your own boss and work from home online. This is becomming more and more the normal. It is so easy to work from home while taking care of the children, a loved one, while cooking meals and throwing in a load of laundry while working. You get to choose your own hours and wear what you want for the most part. If you want to know about a great opportunity for work online check this out right here.
No matter where you decide to work or maybe you just have to get a job until you find a better one always do your best. Build up a good reputation and good work ethic. Be happy where you are at until something better comes along. Always be grateful and it will pay off.
